Tunes of tribute
What else could be a better salute to a connoisseur in the field of classical music than a musical portrait dedicated to his art? Shrinivas Joshi, son and shishya of Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, has come up with an album “Swarakruti”,in which he has tried to capture different aspects of Pt.Bhimsen Joshi’s life with music,in the form of 12 Bandish compositions. Panditji’s heart winning voice, his quest for music, the constant search for finding the art,the secret behind his perfection, are few of the specialities worked out in the album. One of his bandish is dedicated to his mother, panditji’s wife Vatsala Joshi as well. “It was like capturing various moods of the sky”,he says. This classical experimentation is in concord with the young minds and has traditional music in a new form. “Classical music has had a long run on its own and has it’s own merit for this, the only thing is that for it to reach the youth it has to be made accessible and this is one such attempt” says Shrinivas Joshi. He has also made an effort to explain every Bandish background in Hindi in the album. Swarakruti will be released today at the 58 th edition of Sawai Gandharva at the hands of Pt. Shivkumar Sharma.
