Even in the age of factory assembly lines,there is something deeply enticing about handcrafted garments. The A P Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd. has organised the Lepakshi Exclusive Silk,Cotton & Handicrafts Expo 2010 in the city,and will showcase the works of 80 artisans from different parts of the country. The USP of the expo will be the huge array of cotton and silk sarees that will be spread out for the public.The event will be on from August 18 to 25 at Sonal Hall,Karve road.

If Transformers,Terminator,et al confound you with their breath-taking screenplays,Discovery Science’s Nar Williams will help you dissect the mystery of the 3-D camera on the new show,Science of the Movies,to be aired every Tuesday,at 8:30pm,starting from August 17. Peppered with behind the scenes footage and interviews,the show aims to give the viewer a ring-side view of what distinguishes a staid flick from the spectacular fare.

Celebrating it’s diamond jubilee of establishment the Violin Academy of Pune,had organised a special concert on August 15,at the Nivara old age home in Navi Peth. The concert which was held to mark the diamond jubilee as well as the Independence Day saw violinist Savita Supnekar perform in the evening at the venue,along with Abhijeet Parkhi who accompanied her on the tabla. The event which was called the Sayankali Mehfil’ saw a healthy turnout,of the residents of the home,for whom the conert was organised.
