They say that dance is the mother of the arts. Mix@36 at The Westin,added a Latin flavour to its services with Sandeep Soparrkar hosting a Salsa night on Friday,where he and his dance team kept the guests busy swishing their hips as they jived to the peppy music. Henceforth,in a bid to liven the evenings,every Friday night will be dedicated to Latin dances where the guests can learn basic steps while lounging and sipping a drink. “We wanted to try something new in Pune. If this is successful,we may even bring in theme parties,” said Soparrkar,who was accompanied by his wife,Jesse Randhawa. The salsa nights will take place every Friday at 8pm.

The one Lord

Sai Baba loved to say,“All action results from thought,so it is thoughts that matter.” On Monday,E-Square organised a special screening of the movie Maalik Ek,which is based on the teachings and philosophies of Sai Baba. In this screening,senior citizen members of the NGO Janaseva were invited. After the screening of the movie,the viewers had a chance to interact with Jackie Shroff,who played the lead role in the movie. Signing autographs and posing for photos without a word of complaint,Jaggu Dada,as he was being affectionately called,said,“I feel the whole concept of age groups is wrong. As far as I am concerned,a person is young from the age of one to 40,40 to 80 he is jawan,and only post 80 will he qualify as a senior citizen,” as the crowd gave an appreciative laugh. Also present at the function were producer Kishori Shahane Vij and director Deepak Balraj Viiz.

Ancient memories

A ancient port village in Portuguese India,Chaul is known for its own contribution to Indian history,and Art2Day Gallery and Black Swan are attempting to walk through its glory days by organising a two-day art and heritage tour to the city. The tour will be under the expert guidance of the well known artist and archaeologist,Shrikant Pradhaan. A leading expert in art,history and archaeology,Pradhan will conduct the tour of the city,now in ruins,on November 20 and 21 from Pune.

Kids’ day out

On the occasion of Children’s Day,a special programme was organised at the Pulotsav festival. Entitled Pu La Aajoba,the event saw 30 school children from Pune enact scenes from some of the most famous one-act plays in which Pu La had participated. Directed by Swati Upadhyay,the event also saw a few songs and dances by the children,and an audio-visual session,which included a rare video recording of Pu La addressing an audience.

The good Samaritan

Life may be full of drama,but she always manages to throw them aside and take life positively. Sindhutai Sapkal is a ray of hope that all orphans look up to,which is why she is also called ‘Mother of Orphans’. A resident of Hadapsar,Sindhutai,has being working for the orphans since ages. For her accepting the Pu La Krutagnyata Sanman award at the Pulotsav was the most happiest moment of her life,Pu La always being her idol. Accepting the award,she said,“I am like the mother for all the orphans. All I need is the support from the people to continue my work.”
