Six huts gutted in fire in Pune’s Kedareshwar Nagar

No casualties were reported in the fire as all families had evacuated the huts immediately after the fire started in one of the houses.

At least six huts were completely gutted in a fire in the Kedareshwar Nagar area on Katraj Kondhwa Road in Pune on Wednesday morning. No casualties were reported in the fire in which a cylinder blast was also reported.

Officials from the fire brigade control room said that the fire started in one of the houses of the Kedareshwar Nagar around 10.05 am. The Pune Fire Brigade dispatched four fire vehicles and three water tankers to the scene.

After reaching the area, firefighters found that multiple houses had been engulfed by the blaze. They sprayed water from all directions, bringing the fire under control in 30 minutes. By then, six houses and almost all the belongings of the families living there, were completely gutted or severely damaged.

While firefighting was on, one cooking gas cylinder in the huts exploded. The firefighters managed to take out six more gas cylinders, averting more blasts. No casualties were reported in the fire as all families had evacuated the huts immediately after the fire started in one of the houses. The exact cause of the fire is being ascertained.

Around 25 firefighters from fire stations in Kondhwa Khurd, Kondhwa Budruk, Gangadham and Katraj were part of the firefighting effort.
