As they come together to discover the journey of Indian dance,beginning from its origin,the Natyashastra of Bharat Muni invariably becomes an imperative aspect. Reviving its segments live on stage and much more,the Naadanam Nritya Kala Academy is marking the International Dance day. Named Nritya Sanchit – The Enchanting Journey of Indian Dance,the performance will look at the passage of Indian dance over the centuries.
Around 34 students of the academy will perform along with their Guru Ketaki Kale. Putting up the performance for the fourth time,it’s an outcome of in-depth research done by Suvarna Karadkar and Kale based on Bharatmunis Natyashastra. We researched for over one-and-a-half years referring to literature even from Bhandarkar Library,although not much literature is available on Bharatmuni as an individual. The two-and-a-half hour long performance will depict the creation of the fifth Veda Natya Veda by Lord Brahma,the first-ever drama show in the Heavens,the Dikpalas security guards of directions,Shiva and Parvatis Tandav Lasya,seven Indian Classical Dances including Kuchipudi,Manipuri,Mohiniattam and Bharatanatyam,and a variety of folk dances like Gondhal of Maharashtra,Ghoomar from Rajasthan,Kummi from Kerala,Bengali folk dance,Rouf from Kashmir,Gidda from Punjab,Garba from Gujrat,Bamboo dance of Assam,all weaved together for the evening, adds Kale who will be performing with the troupe and has also choreographed the event.
