Why is it raining in Pune right now and how will it affect the cold?

Till 6 pm on Saturday, Shivajinagar’s automatic weather station had recorded 1.8 mm of rainfall while Pashan recorded 0.6 mm of rain.

Pune’s minimum temperature had hit the season’s low in the last week of November and first week of December.

On Saturday, some parts of Pune reported rainfall which caught many unaware. This rainfall, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said was due to the presence of a low pressure trough over the Arabian Sea. While this rainfall is expected to stop in a day, minimum temperature is expected to drop which would result in a return of the cold in the city and district.

A low pressure trough over the Arabian Sea has been causing cloudy skies and rains in Pune as well as Goa and Konkan, according to IMD. Vidharbha is also expected to weather some rainfall. Cloudy skies are expected to return but the rain is predicted to end after a few days according to IMD.

Even as the rain is expected to subside soon, Pune is expected to experience another spell of cold, which would continue till the New year. At present Pune’s minimum temperature stands 16-17 degree Celsius, while the maximum temperature hovers around 28-30 degree Celsius. Minimum temperatures are set to reduce and chances of it falling below 10 degrees has not been ruled out.

Pune’s minimum temperature had hit the season’s low in the last week of November and first week of December. The automatic weather station at NDA had recorded 6 degree Celsius which was the lowest recorded in the district for the season. IMD in December had talked about the present winter being warmer than usual. However, seasonal variation in temperatures has seen days of cold interspersed with warmer days for most of December.
