Railway services normalised on Friday, two days after a fire in signal cabin in Mumbai had led to traffic disruptions.

Officials said the traffic normalised after all the pending technical work were concluded in the affected areas. The Pune-Mumbai route was severely affected after a major fire at the main signal cabin of Kurla station in the Mumbai division on Tuesday night resulted.

On Wednesday, the administration had to cancel Sinhgad and Pragati Express. The Deccan Queen arrived at CST five hours late. Railway officials managed to improve the situation on Thursday, but still had to cancel Pragati Express while the Sinhgad Express and Deccan Queen were running 30 minutes late.

“All the train operation from the city have been normalised,” said Railway PRO Y K Singh. Harsha Shah, president of Railwa Pravasi Sangh, said it was a great relief for passengers to see intercity trains,long-distance trains running on their scheduled time on Friday.

“The fire had resulted into a technical snag. It was expected that it would at least take 3-4 days for the system to function fully. We must praise and thank the railway engineers that they completed the difficult task in minimum time,” said Shah.
