Minor fire breaks out at Pune’s Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav music festival

No casualty or major damage was reported in the fire caused by a short circuit.

A minor fire was reported at the venue of the Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav in Pune on Sunday afternoon. No casualty or major damage was reported in the incident.

The fire broke out around 4.15 pm at the Maharashtriya Mandal Krida Sankul in Mukund Nagar, where the prestigious music festival is underway.

Pune City Fire Brigade chief Devendra Potphode said, “It was a minor fire that started due to a short circuit. We have a fire tender stationed at the venue round the clock as a precautionary measure. The fire was brought under control immediately.”

Shrinivas Joshi, executive president of the Arya Sangeet Prasad Mandal, the body that organises the festival, said, “A wire broke and fell on the curtain at the rear end of the pandal, which then caught fire. All safety measures were in place. So, with the help of a fire extinguisher, it was immediately brought under control. Fire brigade personnel who were stationed at the venue, trained security personnel and volunteers contributed to restoring normalcy within a few minutes after the incident took place.”
