Babar was attacked around 8 pm on Wednesday.
The Pune City Police has arrested a group of eight persons for allegedly attacking a person in Kondhwa Khurd, who had campaigned for a Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) candidate during the recent state Assembly elections.
The victim — identified as Sumit Babar (32), a resident of Kondhwa Khurd — has lodged an FIR in the case at Kondhwa police station. Babar was attacked around 8 pm on Wednesday.
Based on his complaint, police have arrested eight persons and booked them for attempt to murder. Police have identified the accused as Akshay Ashok Lonkar (27), Kunal Tanaji Lonkar (23), Rushikesh Devanand Lonkar (25), Pravin Dnyaneshwar Lonkar (30), Swapnil Dnayneshwar Lonkar (23), Kunal Pratap Lonkar (19), Shlok Macchindra Shete (21) and Prajwal Tukaram Lonkar (19), all residents of Kondhwa Khurd area.
Police said the accused allegedly blamed Babar for posting comments in favour of the NCP and attacked him with a wooden baton, leaving him injured. Babar is learnt to have campaigned for NCP candidate Chetan Tupe, who won the election from Hadapsar constituency.
