On the last day of withdrawing nominations for the Maharashtra Assembly polls, Vinayak Sopan Ovhal, a man with visual impairment, tried to set afire the vehicle of Anil Pawar, returning officer of Chinchwad assembly constituency. Ovhal filed his nomination as an independent candidate from the Chinchwad constituency.

Police officers said Ovhal’s attempt was not related to the elections. Ovhal had submitted multiple applications to the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation for a house under the Ramai Awas Yogana but had not been able to get any response.

Ovhal had earlier broken the glass of the Municipal Corporation earlier this year. The police had booked him under relevant sections.
