Pune civic body refills 2989 potholes in a month

The civic Road Department claimed that PMC completed essential road repairs at the fastest pace in the last 30 days.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Wednesday claimed that it refilled 2,989 potholes on city roads across the city in a month under its pothole-free road campaign.

“Of the 3,904 complaints received from citizens through the Road Mitra app, only 34 remain pending, while action has been taken on all others”, said Annirudha Pawaskar, Chief Engineer and incharge of PMC Road department.

He said it has been exactly one month of the pothole free road campaign and a large amount of road repair work has been carried out in the last 30 days by spending around Rs 15 crore, approximately Rs one crore per ward.

To make the city pothole-free, the PMC said it had formed dedicated teams consisting of contractors from all divisions, engineers from the main department, deputy engineers, and junior engineers, and began working on war footing.

Pawaskar said these were potholes that had formed even though the overall condition of the roads was good, but certain spots had developed deep or dangerous potholes. “Such locations were prioritised and repaired immediately. However, on some roads, the number of potholes was so high that simply filling them was not sufficient. Therefore, those stretches were completely milled and resurfaced with fresh asphalt,” he said adding the PMC repaired around 1,89,000 sq. meters—of roads over the past month. Moreover, around 1,800 locations underwent milling and were resurfaced with a fresh layer.

“Potholes are a major issue for the citizens of the city. We have improved many roads. However, this process will not stop here. We intend to continue this work consistently in the future. Due to this campaign, the pothole problem on many important routes in the city has significantly reduced, giving major relief to citizens,” said Pawaskar.
