Pune: BJP MLA Medha Kulkarni diaognoised with swine flu

BJP MLA Medha Kulkarni has been detected with swine flu (H1N1 virus) and is presently admitted to a private room at Deenanath Mangeshkar hospital. Hospital authorities said that she was stable and had been isolated to ensure a speedy recovery.

Her husband Vishram Kulkarni told The Indian Express that she had fever and cough for three to four days and as a precautionary measure had decided to get hospitalized. She has been given Oseltamivir – anti viral medication and is stable. “We have been advised to stay away for a while as a precautionary measure,” Kulkarni said.

Medha Kulkarni is a first time woman MLA from Kothrud assembly constituency in Pune. According to Pune Municipal Corporation health officials, there is no need to panic as early detection and treatment can help keep the virus at bay.

In Pune, a total of 178 persons have tested positive for H1N1 virus. There have been 20 deaths due to swine flu out of which a majority of the patients are from outside Pune city, but who have sought treatment at hospitals here. A total of 78 persons who were hospitalized were discharged after being treated for swine flu.
