Till the end of this month,Priyasri Art Gallery,Mumbai, will showcase a collection of works that highlight various techniques of printmaking. Put together by Priyasri Patodia, the gallerys owner, the exhibition titled A/P II is an attempt to familiarise new buyers and art collectors with the different techniques this genre involves. People tend to think that printmaking is just serigraph printing, but its actually much more than that.
So the exhibition is at a very core level,to introduce this format to people, says Patodia.
The works of 40 artists 20 graduates each, from JJ School of Art,Mumbai, and MS University,Baroda have been divided on the basis of technique. They will be displayed and sold in portfolios, each of which contain six works. The artists were chosen on the basis of their works as well as techniques, she says. The show attempts to cover all the nuances of printmaking, including etching, woodcut, serigraphy, lithography, viscosity, digital, engraving among others. Boards containing information on each of the works, the techniques employed to create them and the history of printmaking will be on display alongside the portfolios to give viewers a better understanding of these mediums.
