Politickle Moments

Message in a slogan
After it became clear that Congress MP Suresh Kalmadi was ahead of all other candidates in terms of votes, the MP immediately came to the media centre at Shivajinagar godown in the evening with a retinue of his party followers, who were in a celebrative mood. When asked about his opinion on Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar, who had shunned Kalmadi’s campaigns, his followers started shouting the slogan “Dadagiri nahi chalegi!”,as Ajit Pawar is fondly called Dada by his followers. When one of the Congress workers asked her colleague why she was shouting the slogan, she pointed to Kalmadi and said: “Saheb had ordered us to shout this particular slogan only!”

Missing workers
When Baramati’s victorious candidate Supriya Sule came out of the counting centre after the results, she was swamped by press photographers. Sule posed for them as she looked around for the party workers. There was a huge gathering outside the centre that seemed to please her only till she realised that they were all Shiv Sena workers who had gathered to welcome Shiv Sena’s winning candidate Shivajirao Adhalrao Patil. Disappointed, she hurriedly went to her car but not before turning back to ask her personal assistant sharply,“Where are our party workers?”

Blame it on dada
With Shiv Sena bagging both the Maval and Shirur Lok Sabha seats in Pune district, winning candidate from Shirur,Shivaji Adhalrao Patil was his articulate best. When asked why NCP did not register the win despite the party having a stronghold in both the corporations, the zilla parishads and even in municipal council. “Blame it on dada,” he said with a smile. “Looks like people do not love dada anymore,’’ he quipped ensuring that he sent out the signal,of NCP’s downfall in the district, loud and clear.

My wife,the future Obama
Giving company to his wife was Sadanand Sule, who sat beside Supriya throughout the counting. Sule, while declaring himself as an apolitical person, said that his wife was a youth icon. “She is almost like a future Barack Obama,’’ he said while talking to the media. Stating that her win was all because of her hard work,he added that he would prefer to focus on their children and would leave the “father and daughter” to politics.
