Comedian Al Pitcher currently touring India is all set to show the funnier side of the city

A view of images of the city autorickshaws, street advertisements, traffic, malls and soon, which might otherwise evade even a glance, had the audiences burst into laughter. And his take on them was incredible, blending sarcasm, scrutiny and reality, while one just wondered how he knew so much about the city, where he had arrived just a few hours back. But that is Al Pitcher, identifying humour in probably anything and presenting a unique cliché in comedy. The famed Kiwi stand up comedian was in the city as he saw and showed it in its best absurdity. A bunch of hastily clicked images were in fact his local stock to draw abrupt humor at the show that also saw a lively involvement of the spectators with they too being the reason of his extremely impulsive jokes.

Globetrotting in the second leg of his picture show for the next four months that begins with India,Pitcher stunned the audience with his spontaneity on Saturday night at Post 91. “I have said I am going to Mumbai and Bangalore and people have said wow and when I have said I am really excited about my show in Pune, they have asked ‘where’? So I have finally discovered Pune to tell them. How amazing is your life when you have chosen to come around the world to show your photos, show off and make people laugh, what a life,” he adds.

Known for his gigs derived form quick inspection,Pitcher says he over analyses life. “I am dull otherwise, people say I am funny but I am the kind who always tries to find a great joke,I am quite annoying. I look at anything,I don’t like victims or ever hurting anyone but I do love a heckle,it gives comedy a live feel, the tension in the crowd can be amazingly awkward, then a laugh and everyone can relax. When people laugh so much they let out a bit of wind, magic,as long as they leave afterwards,” he quips.

Having done his first gig a decade back Pitcher was a BBC New Act Semi finalist and Daily Telegraph Open Mic Finalist. “Comedy is not repetitive if you change it every night,I don’t want to do monologues so I try and make it,interesting, very funny and sometimes its just me up there. I don’t do any research,I just pick an area and go out and take what I see. I’m just capturing the mundane stuff, the things we walk past every day without noticing them. That’s where the comedy is,” he signs off.
