Philosophy as a subject in academics needs to undergo a drastic change and should be redefined in accordance with the modern times,said Sharad Deshpande,head of philosophy department,University of Pune and Vijay Bhatkar,eminent scientist while inaugurating the two-day national round table conference on Need to redefine philosophy and interpret its Indian,Oriental and Western concepts.
Deshpande said teachers of philosophy should reinvent the subject and make it interesting for engineers,businessmen,doctors and other professionals. The subject must be receptive of developments in cognitive sciences and consciousness studies that are already taught as interdisciplinary subjects in the west, he said. Agreeing with him,Bhatkar said that someone should innovate philosophy and interpret the truths cited by our saints in todays context. Deepak Tilak,vice chancellor of Tilak Maharahstra Vidyapeeth,Mangesh Karad,executive director,MIT,Mrunal Kothari,principal L K Kshirsagar,Milind Pandey and others were present on the occasion.
