The minimum temperature in October this year in the city has hovered around 17 degree celsius, the highest in the month over the last 10 years, which could delay the onset of winter in the city by another week, say weather officials.
According to weather officials, cyclone Chapala in the Arabian Sea is keeping up the moisture content in the air, which is not allowing the temperature to come down.
Winter in Pune usually sets in by the last week of October and and the start of November.
However, according to the forecast issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the minimum temperatures in Pune will continue to hover around 18-20 degree celsius. The maximum temperatures, after touching 34 degree celsius, have reduced a bit to 32 degree celsius, still keeping the days hot.
The lowest minimum temperature for the month of October in the city was recorded on October 29, 1968, which was at 9.4 degree celsius.
This year, however, with cyclonic activity continuing in the Arabian Sea, minimum temperatures in the city will continue to be around 18-21 degree celsius, weather officials said.
They said that above normal temperatures were likely to prevail over most parts of South Asia, including India, till December this year.
