A 41-year-old engineering professor was duped of Rs 4.1 lakh through an online fraud in which the money was withdrawn from his bank account through numerous online transaction. A probe has revealed that his cell phone SIM card was blocked by the fraudsters to ensure that he does not get alerts of the online transaction.
A complaint in this regard has been registered by Sandeep Manoher Chaware,who works with an engineering college in Narhe. As per the complaint,the incident came to light on September 15,when Chaware withdrew cash from the ATM and found that there was much less money than there was earlier. As he checked with the bank,it came to light that Rs 4.16 lakh was taken out in a number of online transactions on September 11 and 12.
PSI A V Tekale of Sahakarnagar police said,We now know that the SIM cards of the complainant was blocked. We suspect that it was done by the online fraudsters to ensure that the he does not receive the updates of the transactions. We have started a probe in the case.
