Ode To The Musical Master

Well-known classical music artistes will share the stage at the upcoming Chintamani Jayanti Samaroh.

For the fans of Hindustani Music,the coming week looks promising. Organised by Pancham Nishad Pvt Ltd,a three-day festival – Chintamani Jayanti Samaroh,woven around the theme of Hindustani Music,will be held from November 7 to 9 at Yeshwantrao Chavan Auditorium,Kothrud.

In its ninth edition,the musical programme is a tribute to Padmabhushan late Pandit Chintamani Raghunath Vyas. This year too eminent artistes will join hands to pay homage to the musical master on his 87th birth anniversary (November 9). The first day of the fest will have Sitarist Nayan Ghosh and Aditya Kalyanpur performing on tabla. This will be followed by a performance by renowned artistes Rajan and Sajan Mishra. The second day will see young talents like Sabir Khan on sarangi,vocalist Kaushiki Chakrabarty,and Ajay Joglekar on harmonium. Khan,an eminent sarangi player from Sikar Gharana in Jodhpur,Rajasthan,says,“I will be presenting ragas like Jog,Malkauns,Megh Malhar and other ragas that the audience will want me to play. Rajasthani traditional music will also be a part of my performance.” Harmonium artist Ajay Joglekar is looking forward to the show. He says,“It is a pleasure to contribute to this concert. Along with the audience,we artistes will also enjoy it. Our group show will be a treat for Puneites.”

On the last day of the concert,vocalist Shripati Hegde will perform with Bhushan Parchure. The evening will end with a unique presentation called ‘Triloki’ by Trilok Gurtu along with well-known classical singer Shaunak Abhisheki and other artistes. Gurtu will blend world music with Indian devotional and semi-classical music forms of thumri and dadra as well as Marathi natyasangeet. In the previous years,this event has featured veteran artistes like Kishori Amonkar,Shubha Mudgal,Hariprasad Chaurasia,Jagadish Prasad,Rashid Khan and Shripati Hegde.
