After performance management of personnel, human resource professionals in IT and IT enabled services (ITeS) are now considering potential management as a way of mapping employee performance.
It is a new practice where an employees performance is marked against his potential, said Bhushan Surve,HR executive with Symantec here. Bettina Koblick, vice president (global HR services) for Symantec Corporation spoke about the need for potential management to around 150 HR professionals in a meeting held recently. She stressed the need to have potential-to-performance ratings to optimise the talent within the organisation.
For any successful organisation,it is important to have the right talent working at the right position at the right time, said Koblick. Surve added that in most companies,HR professionals are assigned for particular projects. However, through potential management,a person interested in a different domain than what is assigned to him can contribute to the area of his/her choice.
The meet was organised by HR InfoTech Association (HRIA),a city-based association of HR professionals in the IT/ITES industry. The discussion focused on Talent optimisation during downturn. Another aspect that came up was HR-Direct,a centralised resource centre through which employees can pose queries and find answers from the HR,said Umesh Agashe,a HR professional from Persistent Systems who participated in the meet.
