Now,e-mailing in Marathi made easy

Computer applications such as word,excel or photoshop can now be used in Marathi,thanks to Shodh Marathicha,an organisation set up to promote use of Marathi in computers.

The organisation has provided a Marathi online editor on its website free of cost that has also made it easier to write e-mails in Marathi. The online editor was launched on Saturday on the occasion of Marathi Bhashadin. There are Marathi softwares available in the market but this is the first time that an online editor is made available free of cost, said Shubhanan Gangal,head of the organisation.

Internet users only have to go the website http://www.shodhmarathicha.com and download the font Gangal1. Once the font is downloaded,the users can write an e-mail in Marathi on the editor and send it to whomever they want to. The recipient,while receiving the e-mail,also gets the font along with the e-mail. So while replying he/she can reply in Marathi, said Gangal. Once the font is downloaded,it can be copied on a pen drive and installed on a computer.

The user who has downloaded the font on his/her computer can also use other applications such as word,excel or photoshop in Marathi. That means one can write letters,maintain monthly balance sheets or give captions to photographs in Marathi, he added.

According to Gangal,while the provision of writing e-mails in Marathi is made available by some of the service providers,sometimes these cannot offer options for difficult Marathi words or sentence structures. There is no such limitation in case of Shodh Marathicha editor.

According to senior journalist Yamaji Malkar who has helped Gangal in developing this unique facility,the idea is to provide easy access of Marathi language to computer users.
