CCTVs at all traffic junctions soon
CCTVs would soon be installed at all chowks in the city to curb traffic violations,Minister of State for Home Satej Patil has said. “Like in Bangalore,the government is planning to set up CCTVs at all traffic junctions in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. This will reduce pressure on traffic police,” Patil said at a function to felictiate him organised by D Y Patil College Pratishthan,Akurdi. Mayor Yogesh Behl,pratishthan director Col (Retd) SK Joshi and Pratishthan chairman Sanjay Patil were present.
Konddeo statue creates a ruckus in PCMC
The controversy over Dadoji Konddeo statue in Pune has extended to Pimpri-Chinchwad house. On Thursday,the civic general body meeting witnessed a ruckus after independent corporator Maruti Bhapkar placed a proposal to welcome the PMC move to shift the statue from Lal Mahal. Shiv Sena members criticised Bhapkar for moving such a proposal. Such a proposal is nothing but an attempt to belittle the stature of PCMC house,” said Seema Savle of the Shiv Sena. Party leader Shrirang Barne also attacked Bhapkar,leading to a heated argument between corporators. Mayor Yogesh Behl ruled that to ensure law and order,he would not accept the proposal of the corporator.
New octroi policy on anvil
A new policy for octroi,which rakes in nearly Rs 700 crore a year and is a major source of income for the PCMC,will come into effect from the next fiscal. Mayor Yogesh Behl has asked the civic administration to formulate a new policy to ensure the civic body gets additional revenue from octroi. The Mayor’s directive came at the general body meeting earlier this week. Corporators including NCP city unit chief Azam Pansare pointed out that octroi evasion was on the rise and the PCMC administration should take steps to curb the same.
Nod for fire station plan
The proposal to set up a fire station in Pimpri-Chinchwad MIDC area has finally got the government nod. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar recently approved the PCMC proposal for setting up a full-fledged fire station. Pawar approved the proposal at a special meeting of PCMC officers and office-bearers. He also directed the PCMC administration to make changes in the development rules for BRTS corridors. Mayor Yogesh Behl said the changes were sought by the Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association.
Kharat coopted corporator
Sahebrao Kharat of the NCP has been appointed coopted member of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation. He was appointed in place of Uttam Hirve who was disqualified as coopted member of the state government. Kharat has served as the corporator of PCMC in the last term from Bhosari.
Civic activist Uday Shetty passes away
Civic activist Uday Shetty of Mohannagar Chinchwad passed away recently following a brain haemorrage He was 38. He is survived by his father,mother,wife and two children. Shetty had played a key role in the development of Mohannagar suburb. Local activist Deepak Chandekar of Chhatrapati Shivaji Mandal said whether it was road,garbage or water problem,Shetty took up the matter with civic and political leaders and ensured they were resolved. “He was always at the forefront of the social cause,” he said.Manoj More
