Eleven speedbreakers, most of them near schools, will come up on roads in Khadki Cantonment Board (KCB) areas and height restrictions will be introduced to check movement of heavy vehicles on certain roads.

Eleven speedbreakers, most of them near schools, will come up on roads in Khadki Cantonment Board (KCB) areas and height restrictions will be introduced to check movement of heavy vehicles on certain roads.

As per the directives of the traffic branch, the area near the bus stop maintained by PMPML and Karriapa Road will now see fewer heavy vehicles due to the height restrictions.

Surveys have been undertaken to change hawking zones. Parking zones for two-wheelers and four-wheelers are also likely to change. Accordingly P1 and P2 parking, signages will also be changed.

Inspector V V Palsule from the traffic branch said,“Parking restrictions are likely to be changed in many areas. Many roads that were earlier one-way have been widened,so we can have P1,P2 parking on either sides. No-parking in some areas will be lifted to take the load off the main roads and parking will be introduced on sub-arterial roads and lanes.”

Speed breakers will come up at several locations, including Karriapa Road junction and Teen Marshal Road, and the roads in front of St Joseph’s Convent Girls School,St Joseph’s Boys School,Tyagi Memorial School on Burr road,Karki Business Centre on Eastern road,in front of MSEB office at the junction of Moledina Road and Dr Ambedkar Road,in front of Cantonment Board Hospital near Tikaram Alegaonkar School and in front of the All Saints School,on either side of the junction.

KCB vice president Manish Anand said,“I specifically raised the issue of the speed breakers with the schools during the board meeting on June 17. After a school girl was hit by a truck in front of a school last year, this move was necessary. The traffic flow needs to be regulated at some of the major chowks under the KCB and other main roads. At a meeting with Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Manoj Patil, many of the issues were discussed. They will also be implemented soon.”

Arun Godbole, chief executive engineer of KCB,said,”The proposal and the tender for speed breakers have been approved by the board. The estimates need to be approved. The height restrictions have also been approved by the board. We may not be able to start the work immediately due to the rains. However, the work will surely be taken up as we have recieved a letter from the traffic branch too.”
