The Department of biotechnology,Modern College of Arts,Science and Commerce,Shivajinagar will host a national conference on stem cell technology from March 13-15.
The Stem Cell Technology is an emerging technology which has tremendous applications in the treatment of disorders such as breast cancer,leukemia,thalesaemia,diabetes (type 1) and Neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinsons and Alzheimers.
Stem Cells obtained from the maternal umbilical chord can be preserved and used in future to treat disorders in the child.
The latest research is focused on the use of stem cells in cosmetics and spinal cord injuries.
Researchers from this field have been called to deliver lectures .
Dr Satish Patki of Kolhapur,Dr A Jamkar of Pune,Dr Ulhas Wagh of Pune,Dr SA Bhide of Nagpur and Dr Chaitanya Purandare of Pune will be prominent amongst the doctors.
The conference will be inaugurated by Dr A Jamkar,the dean of BJ Medical college,on Saturday.
The keynote address will be given by Dr Renu Bharadwaj,head of the department of Microbiology,BJ Medical college.
