Minimum temp may take a dip

The India Meteorological Department has predicted a dip in the city's minimum temperature in the next two-three days.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a dip in the city’s minimum temperature in the next two-three days,as the cloudy conditions developed owing to western disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir are expected to die down gradually.

The minimum temperature has been above normal by 4 to 5 degrees in the last three-four days in the city. In December, the city generally records minimum temperature at around 10 degrees.

The city on Friday however recorded minimum temperature at 15.3 degrees Celsius.

“The increase in minimum temperature can be attributed to the western disturbance that had developed over Jammu and Kashmir. As it was in the form of cyclonic circulation, city was experiencing cloudy conditions. Moreover, winds coming from Bay of Bengal were also bringing moisture incursion resulting in increase in temperature,” said Medha Khole, director of the India Meteorology Department (weather forecasting),Pune. She said as the western disturbance was moving eastwards, the sky would be clear resulting in fall in minimum temperature.

“It will however increase the maximum temperature but to the normal level. In the last two days the day temperature was around 27 degrees which was below normal by 2 degrees. Now,it is expected to reach to the normal mark,” she added.
