Mangalorean Catholics hold annual picnic
The Mangalorean Catholic Association (MCA) held its 13th annual general body picnic at the Empress Botanical Gardens on Sunday,April 19,wherein the area representatives from various parts of the city were elected,in addition to having an atmosphere conducive for recreation.

Summer camps for children to be organised
Children Entertainment Promotional Activities (CEPA) will be organising a host of summer camps for children as well as their mothers in the coming days. The participating children can be between the age group of 5-11 years. The camps will be held from April 26 to 30 and from May 4 to May 10. Whilst the first camp will be held in Hyderabad,the second one will be held in the Kanha Tiger Reserve,Madhya Pradesh.

Panguni Uthiram festival celebrated
The Shree Shanmukhananda Sabha recently celebrated the Panguni Uthiram festival at the Karthikswami temple in Parvati. Eleven types of Abhishekam and chanting of Subramanya Sahasranama in praise of Lord Karthikswami were conducted. In addition to this,there was a Deeparadhana performed at the temple in honour of Lord Karthikswami.

Festival of Shri Sithala Devi to be celebrated
The Utsav Committee will hold the annual festival of Shri Sithala Devi from April 26. The weeklong celebrations will include programmes like Kavadi Pooja,Shanmukha Archana,Ramanuja Jayanti,Andal Darshanam,Shri Shankara Jayanti,and a host of other poojas during the week. The celebrations will end with a chariot procession of the deity being taken out around May 3.

In addition to the various poojas,there will also be the distribution of prasad throughout the entire week-long festivities.

Pearls of wisdom
A new book on Guru Nanak,founder of the Sikh religion and first in a line of 10 immortal gurus has been compiled by Renuka Vishwanathan. Called Precious Gems of Wisdom,it describes how the enlightened prophet was not only a religious seer,but also a poet,a mystic and a social reformer. Guru Nanak vociferously advocated the principle of equality and brotherhood of mankind in a period of social rigidity.
