Russian president Dmitry Medvedev congratulated President Pratibha Patil after she became the first woman president to have flown in a fighter jet on Wednesday.
Medvedev said the historic sortie by the president on Russian made Su 30 MKI has further strengthened friendship,cooperation and partnership between the two countries.
After entering the Guinness Book of Records as the first woman president to have flown in a fighter plane,Medvedev called Pratibha Patil around 6.15 pm on Wednesday,said Archana Datta,Officer on Special Duty to the President.
Incidentally,the Russian president had also flown a supersonic fighter jet.
The congratulatory call is also being seen as a better cooperation in the field of defence and related technologies.
The fighter jet is assembled in India and has got a licence from Russia.
