Mechanised Infantry Regiment to mark eighth reunion from Nov 2 to 4, Bipin Rawat to be chief guest
During the reunion, Lt General PC Thimmaya will take over as the new chief of the Mechanised Infantry Regiment from Lieutenant General PM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command, who demits the office later in the month after a career spanning four decades in the military service.
The Mechanised Infantry Regiment will be celebrating its eighth reunion between November 2 and 4. The function will begin with the inaugural General K Sundarji Memorial Lecture at the Rajendra Sinhji Army Mess and Institute.
During the reunion, Lt General PC Thimmaya will take over as the new chief of the Mechanised Infantry Regiment from Lieutenant General PM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command, who demits the office later in the month after a career spanning four decades in the military service.
General K Sundarji, the 14th Chief of the Army Staff, was also known as ‘the thinking General’ and was the guiding force behind the raising of the Mechanised Infantry Regiment.
Army Chief General Bipin Rawat will be the chief guest at the function. C Raja Mohan, director of Carnegie, India, will deliver the keynote address on ‘Dealing with China’s Rise: India’s Strategic Options’.
Lt Gen Shamsher Singh Mehta (Retd) will speak on the life and times of Gen Sundarji. Lt Gen Satish Nambiar, (Retd), Ex-Colonel of the Mechanised Infantry Regiment will be the chairperson of the proceedings. The inaugural lecture will be attended by veteran officers of the three services, academia, serving officers and members of Pune Strategic Dialogue.
Thereafter, the celebrations at Ahmednagar, where Mechanised Infantry Regimental Centre is located, will include events of wreath laying to remember the regiment’s martyrs and attestation parade of 350 recruits. Veer Naris of the Regiment will be honoured at a special function.
