Man arrested for extortion bid

The anti-extortion wing of the city police arrested Manvendrapratap Tejbahadur Singh (21),who threatened a scrap dealer to pay Rs. 25 lakh by impersonating to be a Major Singliya from Dehu Road.

The anti-extortion wing of the city police arrested Manvendrapratap Tejbahadur Singh (21),who threatened a scrap dealer to pay Rs. 25 lakh by impersonating to be a Major Singliya from Dehu Road.

According to information given by police,Singh,a resident of Sachin chawl in Kudalwadi hails from Uttar Pradesh. The police nabbed him following a complaint by scrap dealer Manohar Sukhlal Lodha (50),a resident of Nigdi.

Lodha owns two scrap shops in Kudalwadi near Pimpri by the name of Meneka Metal Corporation and Kesariya Metal Corporation. He also owns a company Akshay alloys private limited in Bhosari.

Jadhav said that Lodha got a call from an unknown number on morning of November 18. He identified himself as Major Singliya from Dehu road threatened him to pay a ranson of Rs. 25 lakh or face dire consequences. Singh called him many times and demanded money. He said that other businessmen were paying up consequences.

On Monday evening the Anti Extortion wing laid a trap at KSB Chowk. Bhawar Singh,who works for Lodha,was asked to take a briefcase with newspaper scraps inside them to the spot. When he reached KSB Chowk Singh came near him,tried to snatch the bag and run away. Seeing him the police team swung into action and nabbed him.

During investigations,the police seized two simcards and a phone from him,Rs four hundred in cash.
