Maharashtra earned their second victory of the All India Super league cum knockout T20 women’s championship. Maharashtra beat Haryana by four wickets to maintain their unbeaten run through the tournament.
Haryana won the toss and opted to bat first. However,on a Poona Club wicket which has always been known to assist the bowlers during the morning sessions stayed true to character. The Haryana batters just get going and even though the Haryana openers,Prerna Batra and Sonia Khatki got starts,they could not convert these starts into big scores.
Soniya Dabir was highly impressive with the ball as she picked up four of the six Haryana wickets that fell. Dabir bowled a stifling spell of four wickets for 13 runs to derail Haryana’s innings. Haryana could only manage a paltry 86 runs in their allotted 20 overs. Sonia Khatki was the topscorer for Haryana with 25 runs.
In chase of a relatively easy target,Maharashtra wobbled at the start. They lost their first wicket on 18 runs and then lost two consecutive wickets when the score read 33. Snehal Jadhav and Devika Vaidya finally steered Maharashtra home as they overhauled Haryana’s score in 16.3 overs. Urvashi Saini scalped two wickets for Haryana conceding 12 runs from the two overs that she bowled.
In the other match played at the same venue,Madhya Pradesh earned a six wicket win over Odisha. Madhya Pradesh chased down Odisha’s 119 run target on the last ball of the match. Nidhi Buley scored 35 unbeaten runs and played the role of a finisher perfectly as she guided Madhya Pradesh home in a tricky chase.
