‘Love is not a cliché’

When she participated in the 'Passions Writing' contest conducted by Mills & Boon last year,it was just a last minute whim.

When she participated in the ‘Passions Writing’ contest conducted by Mills & Boon last year,it was just a last minute whim. But today,Milan Vohra is glad she did,for she won the contest and has now become the first Indian author of a Mills & Boon book. In the city on Thursday for the launch of her book,Delhi-based Vohra gushed,“I always wanted to be a writer and now that my book – The Love Asana – is launched,my dream has come true.”

“There are two things that I love – to write and to continue to believe in happy endings, and Mills & Boon has given me a great platform to combine them,” says the ecstatic winner. And her journey, right from participating in the contest to winning it and then witnessing the release of her book, has reaffirmed her faith in happy endings.

When quizzed about the title of the book, she says,“I did not choose the title, the title chose me. An idea came to me while practising yoga and I knew right away that I wanted to write a story about a young yoga instructor who falls in love with a charismatic man who walks into her class. For me,the title came first and then the story.”

The story revolves around Pari and Vivan. Pari is fiercely loyal, cautious but still impulsive at times. “Pari is like so many inspiring women I have met in India. While Vivan is the kind of man we find ourselves irresistibly attracted to,” adds this Mills & Boon fan.

The book is really close to her heart and she describes her favourite bit in it: “When Pari is in class, packing up,and Vivan comes close to her,she has a leap of fancy imagination, and there is a spark. But,she holds back the passion and acts as normal as possible. I love this moment in this story,as Pari does not let the chemistry and her fantasy rule over her.”

Vohra hopes to inspire readers to let their creativity flow too. She smiles,“Don’t let cynicism stop you from believing. At one point,I would never have believed that I would be writing the first Indian Mills and Boon book, but it has happened!” Manish Singh, country manager,Harlequin Mills and Boon, who was also present at the launch, remarked,“We want people to unlock their passions and discover their talent.”
