Painting demonstrations by renowned artists are looked forward to by both art lovers and students. After all,who doesnt want to witness an established genius creative process. But a unique event held on November 26 and 27 gave nine students of art the opportunity to paint live. Organised by Magma Fincorp Limited in collaboration with Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya, the event was held at Hotel Aurora Towers.
In its fourth leg,the Painters Workshop is conducted by Magma around the country in partnership with the local government art school. We believe upcoming artists require such platforms to showcase their talents, says Suryakant Mishra, associate vice president,Magma, adding,In a metropolitan city, the opportunities an artist gets is greater in comparison to those residing in tier-two cities. Pune, though,is very culturally active and provides artists with avenues which are more sophisticated than those offered by the other cities.
The nine final year art students were accompanied by their professor KR Kamble who also took part in the workshop. The event was spread over two days and required each artist to make a painting per day, informs Kamble. The students were working on a tight schedule and had to deliver a painting in about seven hours, he added.
The on-the-spot painting workshop, says Kamble, allowed the artists the freedom of subject, which made the process enjoyable. Some students dabbled with still-life,some with portraits, while others worked with abstract ideas. On the other hand,Kamble dedicated his first painting to Sachin Tendulkar. The background has the tri-colour with Sachin in the foreground, joyously waving his fans goodbye, says Kamble. The workshop was also attended by spectators who peeped over the artists shoulders to catch fleeting glimpses of the works in process. The audience comprised both art lovers and students. Watching a painting being made is similar to sitting for a live musical concert, says Kamble, adding,All the techniques that an artist uses are on display during live painting and the audience can benefit from the process .
