The play is introduced from the stage of post death where three individuals get caught in the world of souls, after their tragic deaths. Yet for its writer director,Navin Bawa its beginning is marked by a life – the one which usually refrains from any discussion. “We often evade certain subjects in our conversations owing to nonacceptance or fear even if they are universal truths and have a very strong logic, life after life being one of them. So I thought this needs to be brought forth with humour for people to accept and ponder on,” says Bawa whose debut play Aasman Se Gire,Khajoor Pe Atke comes to the city tomorrow featuring Shakti Kapoor and Padmini Kolhapure along with the director himself in the lead roles.

Produced by Ek Prayaas, the play also has a love story woven around the three characters,a successful builder,Kunwar Mahendra Singh Rathod (Shakti Kapoor),an encounter specialist (Navin Bawa) and housewife and mother Kanchan (Padmini Kolhapure). With music and dance sequences besides the ambiguity of their past life depicted hilariously,Bawa says,“I have extensively read and researched over the subject of life after life and believe that death is merely a transformation into another life. For me a child cries during birth because it is experiencing death before coming back to life here. The play ends when all three of them reach mukti. It has been a risky idea for a very long time but its materialisation has received a good response since its release a month back.”

While Bawa re entered the medium of theater a couple of years back after a long hiatus,Shakti Kapoor for whom this will be the second Hindi play unlike other artistes, theatre made way after films. Talking about its essence Kapoor adds, “I have myself seen death closely around nine years back when I met with an accident while returning from Shirdi. It was going into the darkness, seeing my son struggling to come to me and returning back to light before I was treated at the village hospital. And this play stresses on the fact that we need not be frightened of death since there is much more on the other side. Besides an unusual theme the medium itself is giving me a different high.”

The play will be held at Y B Chavan Auditorium,Kothrud, tomorrow 9:30 p.m. onwards.
