BID to throw paint ON MAYOR : Parties sit on proposal to restrict visitors at civic headquarters

A day after some unidentified persons made an unsuccessful bid to throw black paint on Mayor Mohansingh Rajpal, leaders cutting across the party raised security concerns at civic headquarters and called for stricter security system.

However, for four months the parties have been sitting on the civic administration’s proposal of keeping a check on visitors at the civic headquarters despite legal committee chairman urging the party leaders to take a decision. “The civic administration had tabled the proposal on April 3 to restrict free entry of public in civic headquarter. Had a decision been taken on the proposal, the incident that took place on Monday could have been avoided,” said Sulochana Tupe, chairperson of Legal Committee.

“I had written to all party leaders in the PMC on May 20 to take a decision on the proposal.” Tupe said she has again taken up the proposal with the mayor after the recent incident and is expecting a decision in the schedule meeting on September 6.

As per the proposal, citizens would be given entry in civic headquarters, office of zonal commissioner and ward office only from 3 pm to 5.30 pm. “We have been complaining about disturbance caused due to frequent visits by the citizens and in most of the cases, workers of various political parties. The incident will hopefully make elected representatives realise the need for stringent regulations at civic offices,” said a civic officer.

Soon after the incident, standing committee chairman Arvind Shinde pointed out to Municipal Commissioner Mahesh Zagade the inefficiency of security personnel. “A full proof security cannot be achieved unless there are restrictions put on the entry of party workers accompanying the elected representatives,” said Zagade.

Meanwhile, improper installation of CCTV has also come under criticism.
