Kolhapur athletes reign supreme

Kolhapur Division athletes topped the boys and girls sections respectively in the 3rd Panchyat Yuva Krida Aur Khel Abhiyan.

Kolhapur Division athletes topped the boys and girls sections respectively in the 3rd Panchyat Yuva Krida Aur Khel Abhiyan (PYKKA) state-level athletic championship,which concluded at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex,Mahlunge-Balewadi on Tuesday.

The meet organised by Maharashtra Directorate of Sports and Youth Services under the aegis of the Sports Authority of India for Under-16 age group had nine events completed during the day. In the boy’s section,Kolhapur finished with three gold,three silver while in the girls section they were run away winners bagging seven gold,two silver and one bronze making up a total of 10 gold,two silver and one bronze.

On the final day,Kolhapur girls claimed all four events in the section with Aishwarya Patil topping the 400 meters,Aarti Patil the 1500 meters,while both ,while both 4×100 and 4×400 meters also went their way.

Host Pune earned their second podium finishes when Anuja Palande (Pune) (1 minute 05.6 secs) finished second behind Aishwarya Patil (1 minute 04.0secs) in the 400 meters . On the opening day Bishwajeet Pal won bronze in the 300 meters.

Vishal Patil (Kolhapur) 54.31 seconds; Akshay Gole (Satara) 54.68 secs; Mahadev Jamadar (Osmanabad) 56.02 secs. Girls: 400m; Aishwarya Patil (Kolhapur) 1 minute 04.0secs; Anuja Palande (Pune) 1 minute 05.6 secs; Vishaka Birvatkar (Ratnagiri) 1 minute 06.0secs
