Junkyard Grooves Again

A song must create a picture in your head,” says Ameeth Thomas, the front man of Chennai-based band Junkyard Groove.

With a new line up,Chennai-based band Junkyard Groove is ready with their second album titled Accidental Heroes

A song must create a picture in your head,” says Ameeth Thomas, the front man of Chennai-based band Junkyard Groove. Two years since the band’s original line up split after its debut album titled,The Next Level, much has changed. But Thomas is still writing lyrics the same way about experiences that move him.

When Junkyard Groove split up in 2011,Thomas says,he not want to give up on the band. And took on the responsibility of finding young musicians whose talent will live up to the band’s name. Soon he found Sajith Satya,Shaskank Vijay and Peter Joshua to form a new line up. Now,Junkyard Groove is ready with a new album Accidental Heroes, for which former band members Siddharth Srinivasan and Naveen Thomas have also pitched in.

“We were watching the History Channel one day and laughing about this title we came across. We laughed about it so much that it stuck and we all thought it would make a great title for the album,” says Thomas.

The album, unlike the debut, features a variety of styles across different genres and each of the eight songs has a distinct flavour ranging from country to club music. While Speed of love is a happy number that one can sing along to on a bright morning,Beautiful Crime is a head bangers’ delight. “The songs in the first album followed a pattern. I wanted to break the monotony and include a variety of songs of different moods and styles,” says Thomas.

Other reasons justifying the diversity include the talent of the band members that vary from pop to rock. “I have recently started listening to a lot of country, drum and bass, and club (electronic) music, all of which have influenced the music that our band creates. It has also been manifested in the variety of our new songs,” adds Thomas.

With five songs ready and recorded, the band still has to wrap up a few last minute touches and record the remaining three songs. Thomas, who is known for his eccentric sense in music, picked up all the studio equipment and got the band to record the five songs at his studio at home in one month. “For the first album we checked out many samples from our studio recordings and made a really big deal out of it. This time we preferred to go easy and recorded it at home. We have played the songs at gigs and our audience loved them, but I am excited about how they will react to the album,” he says.
