Inspired by Telgi,man forges documents,lands in police net

Inspired by the fake stamp paper scam kingpin Abdul Karim Telgi,a photographer from Yerwada started a forgery racket,but landed in the police net. Acting on a tip off,the crime branch of Pune police on Tuesday arrested Imtiyaz Nazir Shaikh (31) of Navi Khadki,Yerwada for allegedly preparing bogus SSC,HSC mark sheets,pancards,driving license,migration certificates and other documents. Intrestingly,Imtiyaz’s brother worked as a cameraman for the film Mudrank – the stamp based on fake stamp paper scam,police said.

Police Inspector Kishor Jadhav of Anti Extortion Cell said that Imtiyaz was operating a photography shop at Yerwada Bazaar. Modeling aspirants were approaching him for making their profiles.

Jadhav said that Imtiyaz was inspired by Telgi and started a forgery racket. “He was providing various types of forged documents. We have seized three computers form his shop. He was using one of these computers for making fake documents,” Jadhav said.

“He has been operating the racket for last two years. Investigations have revealed that he provided fake documents to many persons including some students in West Bengal. He was charging upto Rs 2000 for every bogus document,” Jadhav said.

“Students failing in SSC and HSC board exams were approaching him. Imtiyaz was asked them to apply for re-checking and revaluation and then collected money from the students,assuring to give them a pass result,” Jadhav added. Police are now hunting for his accomplices.

The investigation team comprised of Deputy Commissioner Anil Kumbhare,Assistant Commissioner Sangramsinh Nishandar,inspector Jadhav and others.
