The much-hyped helmet rule imposed within Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) limits remained low-key on Thursday. This comes at a time when the Local Military Authority (LMA) said bikers not wearing helmets would not be allowed to enter Pune Camp from Thursday. The LMA had undertaken a drive to create awareness amongst bikers to wear helmets and those not wearing helmets were told about the importance of wearing one,in a drive from September 1.
On Thurdsay, the implementation was limited to two hours in the morning between 10- 12 noon and 3-5 pm in the evening due to the prior commitments of the Army personnel.
Colonel P V Mohan,Adm Commandant,Pune Sub-Area said,The helmet rule was implemented at five points,Ghorpadi,RSI,RWITC,Prince of Wales Drive and Sports Complex. On Friday,we will implement it in the southern part of the cantonment. About 50 children distributed cards on Thursday. Those not wearing helmets were told to go back. We are still continuing the drive. There has been a considerable rise in people wearing helmets. This means those not wearing helmets are not passing from here, thereby reducing traffic in the area.
