Eat it right
Diet and fitness expert Suman Agarwal recently released her book,Unjunked,in the city. The book,which has more than 80 recipes of vegetarian dishes,has different
segments to help people overcome their cravings for unhealthy junk food,while creating dishes that are nutritious and healthy. The book contains recipes for breakfast,lunch,dinner and even healthy snacks and desserts. She has also categorised the recipes as Jain,gluten-free and quick and easy options.
Course for learning disabilities
Education professionals in the city have the opportunity to learn skill enhancement in learning disabilities,in a new course organised by the Morris Foundation in collaboration with the Centre of Special Education,SNDT Womens University,Mumbai. The first batch of 29 participants comprising teachers,psychologists and counsellors are close to completing the 120-hour course. They attended weekend classes at Dr Kalmadi Shamarao Secondary School,Ganesh Nagar. The course began on January 4 and will end on March 9,with each participant receiving a certificate. Children from mainstream schools often have difficulties in academics due to various reasons,ranging from teachers incompetence to genuine neuro-biological issues. soon after identification prevents the problem from getting severe and out of hand, said Dr Anjali Morris,founder of the foundation.
Ayurveda camp
Ayurveda specialist Dr Sudhir Manohar Juvekar will treat patients with ulcerative colitis at a camp in the city on March 9 and 10. The camp will provide free treatment and medicines at Seth Tarachand Ramnath Dharmarth Hospital at Peth Road,from 10 am to 4 pm. Ulcerative colitis is a long-running and non-recovering disease. Ayurvedic treatment has,however,helped several patients manage the disease and its symptoms.
Sports Medicine Center
Lokmanya Hospital recently opened its Sports medicine and Arthroscopy Center to provide injury-preventive care and advice,as well as physiotherapy,surgery and other treatment post-injury. The Nigdi-based center was inaugurated by world renowned orthopaedic surgeon and sports medicine expert,Dr George Fiesler,from Germany. The event was also attended by Dr Narendra Vaidya Executive Director,Lokmanya Hospitals,Dr Umesh Jadhav orthopaedic surgeon,and tennis ace Sandeep Kirtane.
