Rare Heart Surgery Performed

Minimally Invasive Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery (CABG),a rare heart surgery, was performed on an Iraqi patient at Inamdar multi-speciality Hospital. 54-year-old Khudhair Habeeb Ali,who weighed 111.2 kg,was suffering from occasional chest pain while walking and shortness of breath (dyspnoea) on exertion. Dr Manoj Durairaaj and his team including Dr Sandip Patil,Dr Nikhil Hiremath and Shashi Kale operated on her. Dr Durairaj shared that the surgery is called Minimally Invasive CABG because it is done through a small 6cm incision. “The advantage of the technique is that it is a cosmetic incision wherein no mid-line scar is visible. Since the chest bone is not cut in the procedure, the healing is quick and the patient can get back to normal within two weeks of surgery. Also, psychologically the patient is positive and confident about himself due to the small scar, short hospital stay, quick mobilisation and recovery,” he said.
