President Pranab Mukherjee presented the national award for commercialisation of indigenous technology to Pune-based Dr S N Singh,director of Biovet Private Ltd. Also present for the occasion was Union Minister for Science and Technology Jairam Ramesh,during the National Technology Day celebrations in New Delhi on Saturday. This technology has been successfully commercialised for foot and mouth diseases vaccine under a public-private partnership model.

A Mobile App for Patients

Ruby Hall Clinic launched its new mobile application for both Android and iPhone platforms,providing patients and families with a one-stop mobile information hub to navigate the Ruby Hall Clinic’s patient experience. Benefits to app users include access to information on physicians and search by specialty and location,clinical and diagnostic service ability,and location and emergency details of both Ruby Hall Clinic Hospitals. Families can also request an appointment and request for lab collection of their results through it. The applications were built by healthcare technology and analytics company,Praxify. It provides users with an easy to use,patient-centric approach with turn-by-turn directions for the hospital,thus improving approachability.

Surgical Facility Launched

Prime Surgical Centre has flagged off operations with an ultra modern surgery-only facility in Pune at Damle Path,off Law College Road. Founder and CEO Amar Pradhan returned to India after 15 years of healthcare business experience in the US with a view to bringing professional management and expertise to surgeries,at competitive prices. Built to international standards,the surgical centre has four operating rooms,a procedure room,an OPD,a diagnostic centre and 18 beds. Prime commenced operations by offering surgical services in spine,urology,arthroscopy and sports medicine,GI and general surgery. The spine group comprises Dr Satishchandra Gore,Dr Sunil Nadkarni and Dr Anand Kavi. Urology group is led by Dr Deepak Kirpekar and Dr Amol Talaulikar. Dr Anand Jadhav and Dr Nikhil Likhate comprise the Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine and the GI and General Surgery team comprises Dr Bharat Kalambe,Dr Neeraj Rayate,Dr Sachin Vaze and Dr Satish Pattanshetti. Dr Pratibha Kane will lead the anesthesiology team,which,in addition to providing anesthesia services,will provide all pre-operative care.

Eye Centre Opens

Adhering to social responsibility,40 eye surgeons have launched Atharva Netryalaya in Pune with modern facilities. Dean of the Grant Medical College and JJ Group of Hospital,Mumbai,Padmashree Prof Dr T P Lahane said the centre gives a new perspective to society. Atharva Netryalaya has been started with joint efforts of Dr Manohar Dole Medical Foundation,Narayangaon,Suraj Foundation,Pune and a group of eye surgeons. It is founded on the vision of a corporate hospital that provides personal touch. Atharva Netryalaya and Research Center,which will provide affordable treatment using modern equipment with services of noted eye surgeons available under one roof,was inaugurated by Padmashree Dr T P Lahane at Sanjeevan Surgery at Ghole Road. The mayor of Pune,Vaishali Bankar,MLA Girish Bapat,MLA Mohan Joshi,Abhay Chhajed,president Pune city Congress,actor Rahul Solapurkar,Dr Parikshit Gogate,District Surgeon Dr Vikas More,District Eye Specialist Dr Kemkar,chairman of the centre Dr Anil Kulkarni,patron Pravin Lukand,Dr Suhas Haldipurkar,Dr Jayant Laulkar,Dr Sandeep Dole and expert in the field of eye testing were present on the occasion. “Machinery needed for eye surgery is required to be imported,entailing huge cost. However,it is a welcome thing that 40 doctors have come together to make this modern machinery available under one roof. Two or three more centers will be started in Pune,” said Lahane.

Live Angioplasty Demo

Multispecialty hospital Aundh Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) demonstrated a live angioplasty to a public gathering in outdoor settings,at their premises recently. The live angioplasty was done by Dr Shirish Hiremath (MS) and his team including Dr Sachin Lakade,Dr Mangesh Kulkarni and Dr Krishna Dhoot. They demonstrated Absorb,the “vanishing stent”,which disappears from the body after serving its purpose for the narrowed vessel,leaving the vessel in the most natural surroundings. More than 500 people attended the session.
