Free pollution check for vehicles held

In an attempt to raise awareness on the growing level of pollution,the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) organised 40 Pollution Under Control (PUC) check-up camps free of cost across the city on June 5,World Environment day. The camps also aimed at making vehicle owners aware about the importance of safe vehicles and a clean environment.

This year,SIAM in its special initiative SAFE (Society for Automotive Fitness and Environment) had undertaken around 2,200 PUC check-up camps in 256 cities across the nation. The aim was to check nearly more than 50,000 vehicles in this year while last year the initiative checked 25,000 vehicles at 1,200 dealerships covering more than 250 cities.

Director general of SIAM,Dilip Chenoy said that the Indian automobile industry has always been at the forefront to safeguard environment. “SIAM–SAFE is one such initiative where all stake holders and members come together to spread awareness about cleaner environment among vehicle owners and society as a whole. On the occasion of World Environment Day,these PUC check-up camps across the nation is one such effort,” he said. Harjeet Singh,president,SAFE and assistant vice president,Hero Honda,said,“SAFE is proud to associate itself in this mega programme in partnering with automobile manufacturers and hope that this initiative impact the users in ensuring that proper maintenance is done for the vehicles.” This activity registered a significant number of vehicles varying from two-wheelers to commercial vehicles.
