Free eye camp registers 178 cataract surgeries using foldable lens
The closing ceremony of the four-day free eye camp was held at Babasaheb Ambedkar Cantonment General Hospital,Khadki on April 12. The chief guest of the ceremony was Shobhana Swamy,vice-president,Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA),Southern Command. Lt Gen DP Vats addressed the patients about the importance of the postoperative care cataract surgery and expressed the resolve that cataract should be banished from the Kirkee Cantonment region. Free medicines and anti-glare spectacles to the operated patients were distributed at the hands of Swamy,Neeta Vats,Mrinalini Anand,Shailaja Panwar and Col (Mrs) Vibha Dutta.

The camp was organised on the occasion of World Health Week,by AWWA in joint collaboration with Khadki Cantonment Board. under the leadership of Brig Ajay K Dutta,VSM,Commandment Military Hospital Kirkee.

During the four-day free eye camp,1700 cases were registered and 178 cataract surgeries with Intra Ocular Implant by latest non-stitch technique using foldable lens were conducted. Lt Gen DP Vats,SM,VSM,Commandant AFMC,an eye surgeon of the national repute also operated on the cataract cases during the eye camp.

In the camp initial screening for cataract cases,examination of eye,systematic examination and laboratory investigation was conducted. Patients were admitted in Dr Babasheb Ambedkar Cantonment General Hospital,Khadki.
