Patil was the first woman to serve as the President of India. (Express Archive)Former President Pratibha Patil(89) was admitted to Bharati Hospital here on Wednesday night after she complained of high fever and upper respiratory tract infection. Dr Sanjay Lalwani, medical director of Bharati Hospital, said, the former president was stable and recovering.
Patil, who was the 12th president of the country, had settled in Pune post her retirement. Her husband had passed away last February.
Born in Jalgaon district of Maharashtra, Patil had started her political career when she was elected as an MLA from Jalgaon in 1962. She had served as leader of opposition as well as a cabinet minister in Maharashtra before moving to national politics in 1991.
After her retirement, Patil was busy with various philanthropic as well as social and educational work.
