Engineer arrested in wall collapse case

A week after three women died after the compound wall of a residential society near Dandekar Bridge collapsed,the Dattawadi police have arrested the engineer who carried out the construction

A week after three women died after the compound wall of a residential society near Dandekar Bridge collapsed,the Dattawadi police have arrested the engineer who carried out the construction for alleged negligence. The developer and the contractor who also have been booked,are yet to be arrested.

The complaint was that the wall was constructed as an extension of an old and weak structure,causing its collapse. Dattawadi police on Sunday arrested the engineer Imran Iqbal Sawar (23),who is originally from Satara.

Sawar was produced in court on Sunday and remanded in police custody till Monday.

Deepak Arve,Inspector (crime) with Dattawadi police station who is probing the case,said in the remand application,“The wall was constructed without any permission from the Pune Municipal Corporation. Developer Vinay Mule,contractor Birajdar and Sawar built a new wall of cement on the existing old and weak structure of the compound wall. And above that a fencing of netting and steel angles was also built.”

Arve has said,“It was clear that the three were in the know of the fact that the entire structure was very weak and could cause damage to life as a lot people pass by it every day. Police said that they needed custody of Sawar to trace Mule and Birajdar,who are on the run since and also had to recover documents related to the case.
