Empower underprivileged women,Ajit Pawar tells SHGs

“The state government has taken the landmark decision of increasing reservation for women representatives in local self-government institutions from 33 per cent to 50 per cent.

“The state government has taken the landmark decision of increasing reservation for women representatives in local self-government institutions from 33 per cent to 50 per cent. So,women representatives now must work for the empowerment of underprivileged women in our society,” State Power Minister Ajit Pawar said here on Friday.

He was speaking at the inauguration of Pavnathadi Jatra,a fair organised by women self-help groups at Hindustan Antibiotics ground on Friday afternoon.

The five-day fair, which is being held at HA grounds,is drawing huge crowds, especially women and college students.

Pimpri-Chinchwad mayor Yogesh Behl,Deputy Mayor Daboo Aswani,MLAs Vilas Lande,Laxman Jagtap,Anna Bansode and Pimpri-Chinchwad municipal commissioner Asheesh Sharma were also present on the occasion.

After taking a round of the fair,Pawar said that,”Bhimthadi Jatra organised in the city recently, also got an overwhelming response. The demand for products manufactured by women self-help groups has increased. So,women self-help groups should also keep up the quality level of the products to attract customers.

It is wrong to purchase readymade products from the market and sell in this fair.

A decision has been taken so that co operative banks can provide loans to women self-help groups at four per cent interest. So,the self-help groups should take benefits of such facilities, also at the same time should pay back the loan on time.”

Commenting on the City Centre project,Pawar expressed his displeasure over some politicians who are opposing the project. But he also said “They have a right to have their own opinion on issues.” As long as the NCP is ruling Pimpri-Chinchwad,it would take no decision, which goes against the interest of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation. The city centre project is important for a growing city like Pimpri-Chinchwad,he added.
