Under criticism over errors in electoral rolls, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has corrected information on 92,466 voters ahead of the PMC elections.
The draft electoral rolls having 35,51,854 voters were published for public scrutiny. A total of 65,213 suggestions and objections were received by the civic body of which 47,063 were accepted. “After the verification of applications, the civic administration has made changes in the information of 92,466 voters — mostly changes in the residence of voters who were shown in the electoral roll as staying away from their place of residence,” said municipal commissioner Naval Kishore Ram.

A total of 18,150 suggestions and objections were rejected after verification, he said, adding that the reason for rejection was that the applicants had submitted wrong identity and address documents. “The civic administration first verified the identity of the applicant and then physically verified the address. Those found fake were rejected,” Ram said.
As per official information, the number of voters is more than the population of the city. The municipal commissioner said the population of the city is 34,81,359 as per the 2011 census while the electoral strength is 35,53,854 as per the updated electoral rolls till July 1 this year.
Residents who had submitted applications for correction in the electoral roll will have to search their name in the final electoral roll as the PMC will not intimate them, he said, adding the name can be searched on httpmahasecvoterlist.in/ and same will be available at the polling booth if allowed by the State Election Commission (SEC).
The municipal commissioner informed that three lakh voters with duplicate entries remain but the civic administration has ensured they will not vote twice in the election.
