The city police on Tuesday arrested dreaded criminal Papasingh Dayalsingh Dudhani (35),who,after being released from jail in 2010,allegedly committed at least 16 crimes including dacoities,vehicle thefts and house break-ins in different parts of the city and district.
Dudhani allegedly led the gang that stole a 700-kg cash box from a jewellery shop last year. Acting on a tip-off,a team of Hadapsar police station comprising senior inspector Pandharinath Mandhare,S-Is Dwarka Dokhe and Dattatraya Madane,constables Suraj Shendge,Suhas Gaikwad,Amol Shingte,Mahesh Waghmare laid a trap and nabbed Dudhani from Gosavi Wasti in Vaiduwadi.
Police have also recovered a 17 inch long knife and three stolen vehicles from his possession.
Dudhani was arrested under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) in 2004. He was operating a gang of dreaded criminals and was found involved in 11 serious crimes before 2004. He was released from jail in November 2010,after which he again formed a gang and started committing crimes, said inspector Mandhare.
We have confirmed his involvement in two dacoities at Shirur,three vehicles thefts at Hadapsar,two house break-ins and two vehicle thefts at Wanavdi,four house break-ins at Yerwada,one at Pimpri and two at Bhosari, he said.
Police said Dudhanis aide Japan Singh was gunned down by a security guard when they were trying to loot a petrol pump in Shirur in December 2010. Dudhani managed to escape with Rs 80,000 cash.
