The Education Rights Coordination Committee has demanded withdrawal of the state government’s decision to de-recognise some Marathi schools in the state.

The committee, set up under the chairmanship of educationist Ramesh Panse, will stage demonstrations on Saturday against the government decision.

In a press release issued here on Thursday, the committee has said that the state government had misinterpreted the provision in the Right to Education Act while issuing the circular to de-recognise the Marathi schools.

The government circular says that except government-owned and aided Marathi schools, all other schools are unauthorised and thus should be de-recognised.

“The government has referred to the provision in the Act in a haphazard fashion. The same provision actually says that schools have to apply as per the proforma provided by the government. If they do not do so,only then can schools be de-recognised.

“However, government is not providing any opportunity to the schools to re-apply,” says the press note.

The committee has decided to stage demonstrations near Sambhaji Bridge on Saturday around 4 pm on Saturday to demand withdrawal of the government’s decision to de-recognise Marathi schools. It will also demand financial aid to Marathi schools.
