Days after a Ganesh idol was stolen from a temple in Diveagar in Raigad district,a city-based jeweller has gifted a replica of the idol to the temple.

City-based jeweller Jitendre Ghodke Saraf on Wednesday gifted a gold-plated silver idol weighing the same as the earlier one to the temple. The idol was handed over to trustees of the temple and sarpanch of Diveagar.

On March 24,the gold idol was stolen from the temple after attacking two security guards who later died during treatment.

Pune and Aurangabad rural police had arrested the suspects but they are yet to find the idol. “The robbery was a very unfortunate incident. I am happy that trustees have agreed to install the replica of the idol in the temple. We will also contribute when an idol made of gold will be installed in the temple,” said Saraf.
